Give a hoot

In 9 days this current Miss will be a forever Mrs. That's right boys and girls, 9 days.

I've been more absent than usual because of the impending nuptials and all the last-minute stuff that we've been working on to make the day glorious and wonderful for all of our guests. We've done pretty much everything for the wedding ourselves - with the help of a lot of amazing family and friends - and I am so excited to see it all come together. It's going to be a great day (as long as the rain stays far, far away!).

In 11 days, we will be somewhere that looks a little like this...

Yaaahoooo! To say that I am possibly looking forward to the vacation and week away from work even more than the actual wedding is not totally false...

Bring on the sand and the sun and the drinks with umbrellas!

I don't know if it's because I'm getting married or because, for the first time in 11 years, all my California family will be coming to ME in Texas, but I have gotten seriously nostalgic recently. Just this morning, I joined a FaceBook group for my junior high school, for crying out loud. So, in honor of years gone by, I give you this:

Why am I showing you all random photos on Google maps, you ask? Because they're actually not so random, says me.

This is a shot of the front of the Highland City Hall building, on Baseline Ave., in Highland, CA. See those trees back behind the beautiful palm? One of those trees is mine.

Yeah, I have a tree in front of City Hall. BOOYAH.

When I was in 5th (4th?) grade, I won an Arbor Day art contest and part of my prize was taking part in a dedication ceremony during which I got to plant a small little tree in front of the building. It was during the big "Recycle, Reduce, Reuse" movement and I thought I was pretty hot shit, being an awesome Earth citizen.

Arbor Day isn't technically until April 30th (also mah bee-day, fyi), but since I doubt I will have much time between now and then - and on account of all the nostalgia - I wanted to throw that little anecdote out there today, which also is appropriate considering today is the day we celebrate the whole Earth.

Happy Earth Day, Earthlings!
Treat her well today, and every day.
Go forth and plant trees.

WTH...?

What the heck happened to my layout? It all looks centered, and the panels of color on either side of the posts are gone.

Um...help?
